The Lunar New Year is the most important festival of the year, and New Year holiday period extends for 7 days this year. It's expected a surge in travel for family reunions, sightseeing, and returning to work during this period of time. Particularly in the scenic areas, historical sites, and religious districts of Greater Tainan, a large number of visitors are anticipated. To alleviate traffic congestion on national highways and in tourist areas, the Ministry of Transportation's Highway Bureau has introduced various incentives, encouraging the public to use public transportation for their hometown visits or sightseeing trips.

This year's Lunar New Year holiday period offers the following transportation incentives:

A.    National Long-distance Bus Discounts (Period: February 7 to February 14, 2024):

1.    88 national highway bus routes have weekday discounted fares or 15% off regular fares.

2.    Travelers taking national highway buses, Taiwan Railways, or High-Speed Rail within 10 hours can have free basic mileage or a free one-section ticket.

B.    Eastern Region Special Offers (Period: February 8 to February 14, 2024):

1.    On-site Car Rental Discounts: Passengers on designated Eastern national highway bus routes can have car rental discounts. Additionally, after completing the car rental, holding the rental receipt and round-trip bus ticket allows for a return trip fare discount (car rental discount of NT$200 for cars, NT$100 for scooters).

2.    Holders of Eastern Taiwan Pass or valid accommodation certificates for local lodgings can have a "4 people traveling, 1 person for free" offer on Eastern national highway buses. Furthermore, they can receive a discount of NT$200 on the return trip fare (choose either this offer or the "On-site Car Rental Discounts" mentioned earlier).

To minimize waiting time, it's recommended to download the user-friendly "i_Bus" on your smartphone before taking public transportation. This app allows users to check highway bus schedules and some city bus schedules, estimate arrival times, and use GPS to locate nearby bus stops, making travel more efficient and convenient.
