ContentWith the recent remission of the pandemic in Taiwan, it is expected that the 2021 academic year will commence in early September as scheduled. Nevertheless, as soon as the year begins, two consecutive holidays will also be introduced. The Mid-Autumn Festival holidays are scheduled to span from September 18 (Sat.) to September 21 (Tue.) for a total of 4 days; and the Taiwan National Day holidays are scheduled to span from October 9 (Sat.) to October 11 (Mon.) for a total of 3 days. In particular, the Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the three major traditional festivals, where a large influx of home-bound and sight-seeing vehicles are expected. To alleviate traffic congestion on national highways, the Directorate General of Highways has planned and implemented measures in accordance with the traffic conditions of each route during the consecutive holidays, and has provided the estimated congestion periods on key sections of roadways on its website, so as to advise the public on proper planning before traveling.
For the purpose of preventing the spread of the pandemic and taking into consideration the uncertainty of the trend of the pandemic, public transportation concessions remain cancelled for the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays, which makes the following measures excluded:
1. 90 national highway transit routes special weekday fares or 15% fare discounts.
2. 50% discounts on 44 Taiwan Good Trip routes with e-tickets.
3. Taiwan Railways, High-Speed Railways, and transit route passengers are entitled to a section fare or basic mileage exemption.
4. Round-trip ticket discount of NT$400 for the Taipei-Hualien Line.
5. Eastern transit route one free ticket for a group of four passengers traveling.
6. Eastern region "local transportation" rental discount.
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, certain transit route bus services have been restricted. Passengers are advised to consult with their respective transit companies if they wish to travel through their services, and to follow the relevant pandemic prevention measures, including wearing masks, taking body temperatures, registrations upon entering and exiting the bus, and social distancing. The Tainan Motor Vehicle Station will also send staff to the Tainan Transit Station from time to time to supervise the implementation of various pandemic prevention measures to address public concerns regarding public transportation, and to prevent the emergence of pandemic prevention vulnerabilities in public transportation that may endanger public health.
