ContentDue to the severe pandemic and the Level 3 alert throughout the country, along with the fact that people taking the initial motorcycle license exam must first receive a two-hour training session before they can take the written test and then the road test, the Tainan Motor Vehicles Office had restricted the number of motorcycle license applicants to 15 for each of the morning and afternoon sessions after the Level 3 alert was imposed on May 19, 2021. Then the Office adjusted the number of applicants after the restriction was slightly lifted on July 13, and the maximum number of applicants is now 22 for each of the morning and afternoon sessions. If the alert is downgraded to level 2 on July 26, the Directorate General of Highways will consider increasing the capacity according to the guidelines issued by the Central Epidemic Command Center.
There were originally 50 applicants in the morning and 50 in the afternoon before the level 3 alert at Tainan Station, according to the Director of the Tainan Motor Vehicles Office Mr. Tsai-Cheng Lee. In order to comply with the instructions of the Central Epidemic Command Center, and to reduce the impact caused by the gatherings of people because the initial examinations and written examinations were conducted in classrooms, Tainan Motor Vehicles Office conducted the lectures in separate areas, and the written examinations and road tests were conducted by splitting the number of people taking the examinations, with the rule of no more than 5 people inside the room and no more than 10 people outside. In doing so, the capacity was lowered to 15 people in the morning and 15 people in the afternoon. However, after the slight lifting of the restriction on July 13, due to the public demand for the license examination, the lectures will be held in a large classroom, each seat will be separated by more than 1.5 meters, and the written examinations will be held in room that adopts checkerboard seating with additional partitions to accommodate 22 students each in the morning and afternoon. In addition, the training course was re-opened on July 13, and those who want to take the motorcycle license exam are encouraged to take the motorcycle training course, so that people can understand the risks on the road and learn more about the riding skills to reduce the accident through education and training. The government also offers a subsidy of $1,300 for passing the exam (ending on November 30, 2020) if the applicant takes the training course in advance.
The Office said that at this point, the license examination service is still operating on a reduced load basis. As of today (21st), 8,811 people in Tainan City (Tainan, Madou and Xinying) have completed the test and obtained their driver's licenses. As the pandemic continues in the future, the Directorate General of Highways will gradually open up the examination capacity in accordance with the guidelines for lifting the restrictions. In addition, due to the large number of people in the rural areas who take the exam, each session has more than 30 applicants and therefore the application is suspended to avoid the gatherings of the applicants.
At this time, Tainan Motor Vehicles Office is still taking the "pandemic prevention" as the priority and strictly enforcing the pandemic prevention measures. For those who enter the site to take the exams, they are required to sign in at the entrance, have their body temperature taken, and sterilize their hands; applicants and exam administrators are required to wear masks all the time; classrooms and vehicles are disinfected regularly to reduce the risk of virus spreading. We also hope that people will avoid going out unless it is necessary, let's do our best to prevent the spread of the disease.
