ContentIn response to the declaration of a nationwide Level 3 COVID-19 Alert by the Central Epidemic Command Center, and to reduce the people's exposure to the disease, the Directorate General of Highways has announced that the deadline that falls within the alert period for the periodic inspection of private light vehicles and large heavy-duty motorcycles used by the general public can be extended to one month after the end of the alert.
The Directorate General of Highways said that in order to protect the rights of the public affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the "Measures on the Rights of Vehicle Services for the Public Affected by COVID-Pandemic" were enacted on May 19, 2021. For periodic vehicle inspection, if a citizen is unable to complete the inspection within the deadline due to stay-at-home order, quarantine or diagnosis of COVID-19, he or she may complete the inspection within six months after the reason has been resolved with the relevant documents and is exempted from the penalty. However, as the pandemic is severe, to comply with the command centre's guidelines that people should not go out, the inspection period for private light vehicles and large heavy-duty motorcycles that are due for inspection during the alert period may be extended for one full month after the end of the alert period. If you have already paid the overdue fines during the alert period, the highway authority will notify the vehicle owner to refund the fees accordingly.
The Chiayi Motor Vehicles Office also urges the public to use the motor vehicle service app more often to reduce the need to go out to prevent the disease. If you have any questions about the vehicle service, please contact the Road User Service Centre of the Directorate General of Highways of the Ministry of Transport and Communications at 0800-231-035.
